Boyfriend (34M) sent a video of animals with “Chinese eyes” and i (31F) responded poorly

He’s Caucasian, I’m Chinese. We’ve been dating for four months. Last night, he sent me a video of some animals “smiling” with their eyes in slits and said they had “Chinese eyes” and sent a series of symbols ./ /

I was shaking with emotion and told him that was racist (he said it was funny repeatedly, but couldn’t explain how), that it made me uncomfortable, that I needed an apology and that was not okay.

He read my messages but didn’t reply. Did I overreact?

I don’t actually know anyone with eyes like these, and my eyes are large. But his comments reminded me of how historically the features of Chinese were distorted in literature to suit a certain narrative and that made me sick. This is actually the healthiest relationship I’ve been in (before this), but now I just want to throw the whole man away even though I have big feelings for him.

He also “prefers Asians” which I couldn’t decide if that was a red flag, but I figured that everyone has a thing.
