I think there's a distinction between “going on a few dates with” and “dating” someone. It's a thin line of course, and I'm sure it's different for different individuals, but for me, the moment I am comfortable kissing/making out with someone or where sex is easily expected, only then would I consider myself dating that person. At that point, I would start the “exclusivity conversation”, because I do not have the mental bandwidth to date more than one person at a time.
