It's just never easy to date someone who's already made a family. It sounds like this divorce is pretty recent and of course when there's a coparent in the picture that person has to approve it before any new love interest can meet/spend time with the kids. It's only been a year and there's a fairly considerable age difference here. The difference between him meeting your friends and you hanging out with this kids is that your friends don't have the ability to drag him back to court and monkey with his custody agreement if they don't like him (the way his ex could do to him).
